Aesthetic Realism Online Library Poetry by Martha Baird

    Faithful Swan

    Every afternoon the swan
Came to the willow tree, and there
Was fed and talked to by his friend,
    Every afternoon.

    Later afternoons the swan
Came to the willow tree and found
No food, no conversation, and no friend,
    These later afternoons.

    Still the swan
    Came and waited,
    Every afternoon.
