Poetry of Eli Siegel

Candles and Forest

Provide with candles the sunny forest

That now needs them very much.

The pine needles are in desperate need of candles.

The oaks are.

The underbrush is swooning for candles.

Light for each thing in that wide forest!

The sun is helped by the delicate candle.

The light is sharply assisted by the delicate candle.

The flame of the candle is like a new kind of grassblade come to the sunny forest.
