Poetry of Eli Siegel
He Would Be So Hurt
In women, mind is found—
As sky is with the ground.
The fact that body’s fair
Should show that mind’s somewhere.
Yet men are wont to feel
Trim bodies most reveal
Hostility to thought;
A way of might that ought
To deepen and to rise.
Male judgment is unwise
In joining ugliness
Of body, face and dress
To mind that seeks and dares,
And intellect that cares.
—Can she the truth assert
While he would be so hurt?
