Poetry of Eli Siegel
Hinges
The salient reed by the very cold stream
Is a snowy article in a gray week,
And fit entirely to be shuddered at.
When bats flew here in a late warm week,
And the upright grass was warm to feet, sharply warm,
Much snow was presentable
To the gentlemen present in the marble room;
With Sicilians near
Snowed on by snow grayly,
Flying in snow,
Flying, how, by illusive hinges.
