Poetry of Eli Siegel
In the Best Sunlight Ever
Humiliation, like a vase,
Can bear scrutiny.
Perhaps the vase is a strange animal
So arranged, tucked in, it looks like a vase.
—But now, it walks around,
Walks towards you,
Is friendly, spacious, keen—
And walks for the whole world and everything
In the best sunlight ever.
Humiliation can walk, too,
In the best sunlight ever,
And stand for everything,
And be an animal with meaning for it continually.
Meaning from it,
It being it, alive.
