Poetry of Eli Siegel

In White, Having Also Red

The lady in white who travelled—

And red in her also—

How graspable she is,

Holdable, touchable.

Now she’s in Arizona,

Going fast, going fast,

In a train, in a train.

Now she walks the aisle,

And gets a glass of water.

Holdable, graspable, touchable

Girl in Arizona,

Going fast, going fast,

Going down the aisle,

To drink some water;

To drink some water,

Girl in white,

Having also red.
