Poetry of Eli Siegel
Meadow and a Stem
Certain ladies pray
For the coming of a certain meadow,
The growing of a certain stem.
The sight of a certain wide softness is in all of them.
And so with the hours’ approaching these ladies will look
For a stem and a meadow; had by each.
Fiery their minds are for a meadow and stem,
Heated their minds are for the seeing of these.
They are in the world, these ladies, for the making of a stem
And a meadow.
These maddeningly shining ladies,
These altogether knowing beings.
These burningly correct takers of the world’s showings.
Had by them
Meadow and a stem.
