Poetry of Eli Siegel
Millions of Tons in Chicago
Twenty thousand million tons
Moving in Chicago.
How many tons can you hear?
All those persons in those tons.
Life means tons;
Tons mean life.
All that trucks carry isn’t in Chicago.
The weight of feminine persons comes to something awful.
How many, many millions of tons,
Rooted in Chicago;
Many, many millions of tons.
Beat, beat, beat, millions of tons in Chicago.
Wild and big and immense and all.
Millions of tons in Chicago.
