Poetry of Eli Siegel
One of the Saddest Things in the World
All parents
Have children;
But so few
Parents have children
In their minds, entirely.
Brothers and sisters,
Visits will not make up for this.
Visits and tables
Cannot take the place
Of the ready and oh, so eager
Mind.
