Poetry of Eli Siegel

These Are Five Haikus

1. Reality’s Doing

We are then nearer

To what we were hoping for.

Reality’s doing.

2. The Daisy Yesterday

The daisy is where it

Was, afternoon yesterday,

Shadows attending.

3. The Spoon

The spoon lying there

Has a ceiling over it

Spreading to window.

4. They Tell the Sky

The grass, the river,

In unison tell the sky

It is high, rightly.

5. In Terror, Cockroach

The cockroach in terror

Crossed the rim of the whiteness

Maybe to safety.
